Welcome to WhatETF. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the WhatETF mobile application ("App," "Service," or "WhatETF"). By downloading, installing, or using WhatETF, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App.
TL;DR: WhatETF is an educational ETF screener — not investment advice. We're not a broker or adviser, we make no recommendations, and we don't consider your personal circumstances. Everything in the app is illustrative and for learning only, and past performance does not guarantee future results. There's no account to create, and the data you generate stays on your device.
1. Educational Only — Not Investment Advice
WhatETF is an educational tool to help you learn about and explore US-listed ETFs. It is not investment advice. It does not recommend buying or selling any security; it is not a broker-dealer, investment adviser, or financial planner; it executes no trades; and it does not consider your personal financial situation, goals, or risk tolerance. All matches, scores, model mixes, and simulator results are illustrative and for learning only. Always do your own research and consider consulting a licensed financial professional before making any investment decision. You are solely responsible for any decision you make.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using WhatETF, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and WhatETF.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use WhatETF. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent's or legal guardian's permission to use the App. By using WhatETF, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements.
4. No Account Required
WhatETF does not require you to create an account. There is nothing to register for and nothing to log into. Your risk profile, questionnaire answers, watchlist, and settings are stored on your device and are not tied to an account on our servers. Because there is no account, there is no account to suspend, terminate, or delete — to remove your on-device data, simply delete the App.
5. Description of Service
WhatETF is an educational ETF screener that helps you learn about and explore US-listed ETFs. The Service includes:
- An educational questionnaire that produces an illustrative risk profile
- Educational "matches" between that profile and ETFs, with a transparent, disclosed methodology
- Illustrative model mixes and tools to learn about and compare funds
- A watchlist to save funds you want to explore
- A "what if I'd invested" simulator that shows hypothetical, illustrative figures
- Optional live, end-of-day market data fetched through our server from a third-party provider
These outputs are educational matches and illustrative model mixes — not personalized recommendations, and not an offer or solicitation to buy or sell any security.
6. No Warranty on Accuracy or Outcomes
The App's data — fund facts, holdings, end-of-day prices, price history, and simulator figures — is provided "as is" and "as available," may contain errors or delays, and may not be current. Past performance does not guarantee future results, and the "what if I'd invested" simulator is a hypothetical illustration, not a projection or a promise of any outcome. To the fullest extent permitted by law, WhatETF is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that any information is accurate, complete, or suitable for any purpose, or that any errors will be corrected.
7. Acceptable Use
WhatETF is for your personal, non-commercial, educational use. You agree not to:
- Use the App in violation of any applicable laws, regulations, or third-party rights
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any portion of the App
- Resell, redistribute, or make commercial use of the App or its data
- Scrape, data-mine, or extract data from the App using automated means
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the App or our servers
8. Intellectual Property
WhatETF and all related trademarks, logos, designs, features, content, and functionality are owned by WhatETF or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal, non-commercial, educational use in accordance with these Terms. Fund data and market data are provided by third-party sources and remain the property of those sources.
9. Third-Party Services
When you use live market data, the App sends a fund symbol and an anonymous install identifier to our server (a Cloudflare Worker), which fetches end-of-day data from Alpha Vantage, a third-party market-data provider. Your use of these features depends on those providers, and we are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, or practices. The App is distributed through Apple's App Store; any purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what is sent and why.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, WhatETF and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, and licensors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, revenue, data, or use, or any investment losses or missed opportunities, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the App — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. You acknowledge that WhatETF is an educational tool and that you remain solely responsible for your own research and any investment decisions you make.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the updated Terms here and update the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of WhatETF after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the App.
12. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of competent juridiction, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Apple's standard licensed-application end-user license agreement (EULA) also applies to your use of the App.
