Common questions

What is WhatETF?

An educational iPhone app that helps you understand ETFs. Answer a few plain-English questions, see funds that fit your risk profile and exactly why, open up what's actually inside them, and learn the jargon.

Is this financial advice?

No. Purely educational. It never tells you to buy or sell anything, isn't a broker or adviser, and doesn't consider your personal finances. Matches and model mixes are illustrative, for learning. The choice is always yours.

Why did a specific fund "match" me?

It scored well against the risk profile you built. Open any match to see the breakdown — Category fit, Risk match, Expense ratio, Size & liquidity, Diversification, Goal alignment — each contributing to a score out of 100. "Match" means "fits your stated profile," not "you should buy this."

Is the market data live?

It's end-of-day, not real-time tick-by-tick — and we show the "data as of" date. Offline, you'll see your last-synced figures.

Where does the data come from? How many funds?

103 US-listed ETFs from a curated dataset, plus end-of-day prices, multi-year history, and real holdings via our market-data service. Holdings are factual — we don't fabricate them.

Can WhatETF be wrong?

Data can have errors or delays, and past performance never guarantees future results. Always verify anything important.

Is my data private?

Very. No account or sign-up; your profile and saved funds stay on your iPhone. When fetching market data, only the fund symbol and an anonymous random install ID are sent — no personal data, never used to track you across apps. See the Privacy Policy.

Do I need an account?

No — and you can't create one. Just download and start; your profile lives on your iPhone.

What can WhatETF do?

Build your risk profile and surface matching funds, show exactly why each one fits factor by factor, open up the real holdings inside a fund, chart multi-year price history, run the "what if I'd invested?" simulator, compare funds side by side, keep a watchlist with end-of-day changes, and explain the jargon in a Learn hub and glossary.

Accessibility

Supports VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, strong contrast, and Reduce Motion — every chart and risk meter has a text equivalent. Tell us if anything's hard to use.
